Prices and speeds on DVD Burners
DVD-and-Media.com now has available some of the the fastest DVD burners for Mac machines. For customers who have a PowerPC tower or desktop you can get extremely quick DVD disc burn speeds for what some would say are dirt cheap prices. From as low as £17 you can bag yourself 20x DVD write speeds and 10x DVD-DL recording speeds.
And an additional £2 you can upgrade to a lightscribe DVD recorder / burner with even faster DVD-DL & CD burn speeds, and of course you can burn a DVD-RAM disc right up to 12x. These are not any old chinese brands either, DVD and Media has always supplied what we consider quality Mac products and this is no exception. The £17 DVD burner is a Pioneer and the £20 burner is manufactured by Samsung.
These are exceptionally good speeds for DVD burners, however there will come a time with the future fading out of DVD's as a recording medium. That will not be happening for a few more years, but once the mass market moves over to BluRay disc burners coming into the Mac the rest of the industry will follow. The DVD supply will be around for a long time - at least another 4 or 5 years. It's a very convenient recording format and something everyone is used too, and it isn't proprietary like BluRay.
If you don't have a PPC tower DVD and Media still has some DVD drives that will work for your upgrades. BluRay rom readers they start out at £90 and go up quickly to over £300 a unit. If you have a PPC tower or desktop that you plan on keeping for the next 2 to 4 years these Pioneer and Samsung DVD burners are worth a serious look. Or are you going to take the jump to Bluray as soon as you can?
