Default Toshiba Announce's 16GB USB Flash Drive

Toshiba will launch a limited edition USB flash drive with a capacity of 16GB later this year.

The USB Flash Drive price hasn't yet been revealed, it will help promote Toshiba's new range of U3 USB flash drives, which it announced on Wednesday. They will be sold in capacities of 512MB, 1GB, 2GB and 4GB from November.

This is the first time that Toshiba has offered U3 USB flash drives. U3 devices give users the capability to run applications directly from the device, but only when connected to a Windows 2000 or XP machine. This means a user can carry their preferred settings for email, Web browsing and other computing tasks with them.

U3 devices should also automatically delete any data they have created on the host PC when they are ejected. They have been criticised, though, for not supporting non-Windows machines.

Although a 16GB flash drive may sound scarcely believable, drives even larger than this already exist. A 64GB drive was shown off in April this year by American firm Kangaru, costing around £1,600.
