Universal Studios, one of the two major studios that was using HD DVDs, are now focusing their attention on the rival
Blu-ray DVD recordable discs.
The news follows an announcement on Tuesday made by Toshiba, creators of the HD DVD's, that they would stop making players for the discs.
Universal Studios and Paramount are the two major Hollywood studios that support HD DVD, while Sony Pictures, Walt Disney Co. and News Corp.'s Twentieth Century Fox are now in the Blu-ray group.
A statement made on Tuesday, Universal Studio's did not say how long they would keep putting out HD DVD's or what they would do with their inventory. Toshiba announced about 1 million
HD DVD players were sold worldwide.
