Terms and t ypes of media relating to disc replication.
12cm disc, Standard size disc, 12cm, 5 inch, CD or DVD format.
8cm disc Mini disc, 8cm, 3 inch diameter,
can be mini round, business card with rounded edges, rectangular card disc
The capacity is less as the cd or dvd disc is smaller.
Disc Manufacturing & Replication, Tthe creation of a pressed disc by using a glass master and pressing the data into the media. The substrate is poured out into a mold to form the disc.
After mass replication, the discs can be offset printed or silkscreened with artwork and packaged. Original source media (CDR, DVDR or DLT tapes) can be returned. The glass master used to make the replicates can unfortunately not be returned as it too fragile to travel.
Duplication & Recordable Duplication, refers to the burning of recordable media with a CD or DVD burner or recorder which burns the data onto an existing recordable disc. CD/DVD burners can be desktop models or slightly larger arrays of desktop models used for creating short runs of recordables.. DVDR doesnt play the same way on all DVD players as the ISO standards and programming is rapidly changing. Because DVD-Rs and DVD Players are still evolving, DVDRs are not a good choice for public release.
Recordable media also tends to add to project cost as the media has to be purchased, so again, is suitable only for small runs.
We offer this service in house for runs of up to 500 discs, call or email us for a quote. Recordables can be silkscreened or printed with a desktop printer such as thermal printing or the now popular high quality inkjet printers with caddies specially made to take discs. They can not be offset printed due to the pressure offset printing exerts on the discs as the recordable substrate can often be damaged.
